Online
Most of our products and plants can be ordered online. However, it is only in the early spring and late fall that we ship our plants and cuttings bare-root (without soil, just a small amount of damp material around the roots). It is during these seasons when perennial plants are either just going dormant and losing their leaves or slowly waking up and beginning to bud. When plants are ordered in the heat of the growing season, your order will be processed, but, depending on the plant and the season, we will ship your order as soon as the plant goes dormant in the spring/fall. Bare-root plants have much better success establishing themselves and the lack of soil weight saves everyone some shipping costs. Before your plant arrives, make sure you select and prepare a proper growing area. Simply loosening some soil and adding plenty of compost, followed by wood chips around (but not touching) the base makes for an excellent planting strategy. When choosing a spot, keep in mind that many of your new plants will grow to be dozens of feet and live for decades.
We ship using USPS Priority Mail with plants usually arriving in less than 3 days after being packaged.

Farm stand
At Whaleback Nursery we have a small roadside farm stand that is regularly stocked with potted perennials, wildflowers, small trees, flowers, and eggs. It is always there and open so check out what we got by pulling in the driveway and taking a look.
Please keep in mind that the nursery is our home, so in addition to all of our plants, we have chickens and our young pup, Dewey who may come say hi. He tends to be a bit barky!
