Buttonbush- Cuttings & Seeds

from $3.00

This deciduous shrub is found in much of the eastern US in reliably moist soils. In Western Maine, we find it growing along stream banks or ponds making it an excellent choice for erosion and riparian plantings. In mid to late summer, spherical pincushions of white flowers burst before becoming woody brown seed pods. This is an important native shrub and would be a great plant on any wet piece of land.

Experiment with sowing seeds in both the fall and spring, making sure that they remain moist. Hardwood cuttings may be stuck into moist soil on the edges of ponds, streams, and wetter areas as long as the ground isn’t frozen.

Hardiness: Zone 5A-9A

Soil: Moist but will grow in standing water

Light: Full Sun to part shade
