Evening Primrose - Seeds & Bare Root Plant
(Oenothera biennis)
Evening Primrose is one of the few biennial plants we sell at the nursery. This means that in its first year it grows a rosette of basal leaves, at which point we pass it along to you. In its second year it can grow up to six feet tall with beautiful yellow flowers that interestingly open at night and close the next morning. After its second year, the plant dies back, but not before producing thousands of seeds that will readily germinate, starting the cycle anew.
The flowers attract a variety of insects, especially the Primrose Moth, which can often be found curled up inside the flowers.
Evening Primrose seeds are full of omega-6 fatty acids making them a popular supplement for skin issues and gynecologic matters.
Hardiness: Zone 4-9
Soil: Well drained, drought tolerant
Light: Full sun to part shade
Options:
Packet of approximately 200 seeds.
Bare Root Plants can be planted into loose soil in the Fall or Spring and kept moist until new growth emerges.
