Self Heal - Seeds & Bare Root Plant

from $4.00

Prunella vulgaris

Self Heal is a charming wildflower that you’ve likely seen mowed to the ground in lawns and meadows. When allowed to flourish, it grows to around a foot tall, topped with a beautiful inflorescence spike that flowers progressively from bottom to top over several months. By fall, the spike turns brown and papery, releasing small seeds that readily self-sow for future blooms.

A member of the mint family, Self Heal is found worldwide in diverse habitats, thriving wherever conditions are not too dry or hot. Its common name reflects its rich medicinal history—Native Americans used it for a variety of ailments, from acne to sore throats. Like many plants we grow, its leaves make a simple, flavorful tea with a reputation for boosting overall health. If you don’t already have Self Heal in your garden, we highly recommend adding it once and enjoying it forever.

Seeds require cold stratification to germinate—read this quick article to learn how to accomplish this.
