Coral Honeysuckle - Bare Root Plant
Lonicera sempervirens
Somehow, this gorgeous native honeysuckle vine was unknown to us for our first few years until we discovered it growing wild along a nearby road. Now, we are happy to say that this amazing plant is available for sale!
Native to much of the eastern United States, including Maine, where it is endangered, this vine has beautiful orange/red trumpet-shaped flowers that are frequented by hummingbirds and will bloom all summer long. The leaves are opposite and sometimes perfoliate (joined), similar to Boneset.
The twirling stems will climb up any support you give it, including trees, shrubs, or fences, but it is unlikely to choke out the support, unlike heavy vines like barberry. Highly adaptable, it will thrive in moist loam soils, but will grow ok in drier areas. It is somewhat shade-tolerant but will flower more heavily in full sun.
Fast-growing, somewhat evergreen, and sporting some of the most beautiful flowers we have seen, this vine is well worth growing in any garden.
Hardiness: Zone 4-9
Soil: Moist to dry soils
Light: Part sun to Part shade
